Generation Now: Henderson Celebrates Student Organizing at SLU
Alan Henderson joined students at Saint Leo University for the inaugural meeting of a new student-led civic group, offering words of encouragement and gratitude for being part of such a pivotal moment. The gathering marked more than just the start of a campus organization—it reflected the power of young people stepping forward to claim their voice in shaping the future. “Starting something new takes guts,” Henderson shared. “It’s easy to be quiet or just comment online. It’s brave to speak up—and even braver to organize.” He praised the students for creating a space rooted in open dialogue, purpose-driven action, and a belief that civic leadership belongs to everyone.
In a time where free speech and civic curiosity can feel under attack or politicized, Henderson reinforced the importance of protecting spaces where students can explore, challenge, and build ideas without fear. “The strength of democracy lies in our ability to listen to one another, even when we disagree—and it starts right here, in rooms like this.” He offered special congratulations to Hunter Compton and the founding board for launching something that may one day outgrow the classroom, becoming a catalyst for larger change. “What you’ve created is a signal that our generation refuses to sit this era out.”
