Mayoral candidate Alan Henderson joined advocates in celebrating a significant step forward for Hillsborough County’s future as the HART Board officially approved a modest millage increase to support public transit. The adjustment—costing the average homeowner under $6 per year—will help maintain vital services across the region, especially as operational costs rise and the county’s population continues to grow. “This is exactly the kind of responsible, people-first decision-making Tampa needs more of,” Henderson said. “Reliable public transit isn’t just a line item—it’s integral to how our residents access jobs, education, healthcare, and opportunity.”

Henderson Launches 300-Page ‘Tampa of Tomorrow’ Blueprint to Redefine City Leadership
TAMPA, FL — In a bold move that raises the bar for transparency, vision, and substance in local government, Tampa mayoral candidate Alan Henderson has officially launched the Tampa of Tomorrow Blueprint—a nearly 300-page strategic policy roadmap built to serve every neighborhood, family, and future-forward dreamer in the city.
“Tampa deserves more than slogans and soundbites—it deserves a real plan,” Henderson said. “This blueprint is not a PR stunt. It’s policy. Built with data, informed by everyday people, and ready to be implemented.”
A New Standard for Leadership in Tampa
The Tampa of Tomorrow Blueprint is built around ten core sections and dozens of detailed subsections—all centered on one thing: how local government can actually deliver. From reimagining public safety and improving affordable housing, to launching a 22nd-century infrastructure plan and advancing environmental justice, the report lays out clear strategies, timelines, and tools for accountability.
Each section is guided by a foundational belief: government should listen first, act second, and always serve. Residents won't just find high-level concepts—they’ll see detailed implementation strategies, budget philosophies, and “what this means for you” explanations built right into the framework.
Key Sections of the Blueprint Include:
-
Reinventing Local Government: A full redesign of how the Office of the Mayor and City Hall operate—with a focus on transparency, civic tech, ethics, outcomes and a public data and transparency office.
-
Public Safety & Community Well-Being: Smarter policing, free tools for the public (like doorbell cams & flood barriers), rapid emergency services, and investments in mental health, Community spaces & resources (like public film and recordings studios), and neighborhood safety—not just enforcement.
-
Housing Affordability: Launching Operation HAVEN (housing access via expedited Networks) and prioritizing modular housing, incentivizing workforce housing programs, ADU's, expanded rental assistance programs, implementing a modest vacancy tax, and increased renter protections to make Tampa livable for working families and long-time residents alike.
-
Public Health & Family Wellness: Expanding care navigation, building networks for free childcare & after school programs for veterans and working families. Increased Maternal & Mental health resources and wellness-centered public spaces in underserved communities — like designated quiet spaces and public gardens.
-
Education & Workforce Development: Connecting schools to real-world opportunities, launching youth empowerment pipelines, and building the local workforce housing initiative.
-
Infrastructure & Transit Innovation: Introducing the 22nd Century Infrastructure Plan, boosting mobility and economic access through modern public transit, while preserving Tampa’s cultural identity.
-
Economic Development & Local Business Growth: Launching 'The Mayor's Preferred Vendor Criteria' designed to directly support local small businesses, advocating for local manufacturing, inclusive procurement, and partnerships with local innovation ecosystems.
-
Civic Power & Public Engagement: Implementing participatory budgeting, thoughtful public access to internal functions, and access-based civic education to activate residents of all ages.
-
Public Accountability & Performance: Rolling out citywide KPIs, introducing 'Public Outcome Liaisons' to every Department, incorporating both resident & city staff feedback loops, and introducing a "Government We Can Show Off" leadership model built on trust, teamwork, high standards and measurable outcomes.
-
Climate Resilience & Environmental Justice: From urban shade and hydroponic gardens to smart food and flood innovation to a holistic river renewal strategy—this section positions Tampa as a national model for environmental leadership.
Built with—and for—the People of Tampa
What makes the Tampa of Tomorrow Blueprint different is that it wasn’t built in a vacuum. It’s the result of hundreds of conversations, community events, expert reviews, and feedback loops—blending local insight with national best practices.
“Every big idea in this plan is paired with what it means for the people living here,” Henderson said. “Whether you're a renter, a small business owner, a student, or a senior—you’ll see yourself in this plan.”
A Challenge to the Status Quo
With this rollout, Henderson is not just introducing a campaign document—he’s throwing down a challenge to every candidate who hopes to lead Tampa.
“If you want to lead this city, show us how. Concepts of a plan aren’t enough when the stakes are this high,” he said. “To future candidates: If your plan isn’t this clear, this detailed, or this thoughtful—you’re not ready.”
Looking Ahead
The Tampa of Tomorrow Blueprint will be continuously updated as Henderson’s campaign engages with more neighborhoods, subject matter experts, and community leaders. A public-facing platform for feedback, updates, and collaborative input is expected to launch in the coming weeks.
As Henderson puts it, “This is a living document for a living city. And the only way to build Tampa’s future is to do it together.”

On the Streets, Not in Suites: Henderson Reaffirms Commitment to Tampa Residents
At a recent community community event hosted by @tampaau_fl, Alan Henderson was reminded of a truth too often overlooked in politics: some of the most important conversations happen not in conference rooms, but on street corners. Listening to residents share their challenges, hopes, and frustrations reinforced Henderson’s belief that the foundation of effective leadership is presence—not performance. “These weren’t just political conversations,” he said. “They were personal ones. About rent. About work. About what it means to feel safe, seen, and supported in your community.”

As Alan Henderson’s mayoral campaign builds momentum across Tampa, last week marked a defining moment in both tone and action. From expanding his team to refining the campaign’s core strategies, Henderson doubled down on his belief that leadership begins by showing up and standing with the people. That message came to life when he joined Teamsters Local 79 and 10 Roads Express drivers—essential workers who keep Tampa’s infrastructure running—on the front lines of their fight for a fair contract and dignified wages. “These workers are the backbone of our city,” Henderson shared. “And they deserve respect, safety, and compensation that matches the value they provide every day.”

It’s brave to speak up—and even braver to organize.” He praised the students for creating a space rooted in open dialogue, purpose-driven action, and a belief that civic leadership belongs to everyone.

A Day of Impact: Henderson Visits Feeding Tampa Bay and Local Entrepreneurs
Last week, Alan Henderson spent the day immersed in the heart of Tampa’s community—starting with a visit to the headquarters of Feeding Tampa Bay. Touring their operation, Henderson witnessed the scale, strategy, and soul behind their mission to end hunger across the region. “Their impact, of course, goes beyond just food” Henderson shared. “They support dignity, stability, and lifting people up & I believe the city of Tampa should support them and other similar organizations in that effort” The visit reinforced his belief that local government must be an active partner in supporting nonprofits that are already making a difference on the ground.
The day continued with a hybrid youth event hosted by GQ Tampa and EmpowerU, where students heard directly from top Florida executives about leadership and resilience. Henderson was invited to share closing remarks and left energized by the students’ curiosity and vision. He later connected with small business owners at local open markets, including a heartfelt stop at Drip Addiction Coffee Co.—a firefighter-owned café brewing both caffeine and community impact. “Stories like theirs are so Tampa” Henderson said, “it's creative, it's innovative, and it's rooted in service to the community. That's the kind of entrepreneurship we should always champion.” From service to students to small business, the day served as a powerful reminder of what makes Tampa extraordinary—and the responsibility leadership carries to nurture it.
